Social-Interactive & Play Skills
Social-Pragmatic Language includes use of language for different functions or purposes, altering language to suit a specific communication partner or social situation, and following the rules of conversation. Children with social-pragmatic language difficulties may have difficulty turn-taking during conversation, have decreased eye contact during social interactions, have difficulty maintaining a topic of conversation, say inappropriate things during social interactions, and/or tell stories in a disorganized manner. Social-Pragmatic Language skills are crucial for a child's overall confidence and success. WordPlay Speech Therapy uses techniques from Michelle Garcia Winner's "Social Thinking Curriculum," to support your child's social-pragmatic language skills growth and increase their confidence during everyday social interactions.
Play is critical to cognitive, social and language development. Children learn and grow through play in areas of problem solving, abstract thinking, life skills, perspective taking, imagination and exploration. WordPlay Speech Therapy can help support your child's play skill growth, and overall development, through our play-based therapy model.
If your child is exhibiting difficulties in areas of social-interactive skills or play skills, call or e-mail Brittany, to discuss your concerns in more detail.
